Spicy Stewed Plums

Spicy Stewed Plums.png

An interesting spice for any of the stone fruits.  

Plums are abundant in early summer. They can accompany so many savoury dishes as well as provide a delicious dessert, try with Buckwheat Waffles or be the central fruit for breakfast.

Ingredients

Preparation: 5 mins  Cooking: 15 mins  Serves: 4+

500 gm (16 oz) plums

2 star anise

1250 ml (1/2 cup) water

2 tsp sugar*

Method

HALVE the plums removing stone if you wish.

PLACE plums, and star anise in pan, pouring in water to a depth of approximately 2 cm (the plums steam in the water not boil).

HEAT gently at a low/medium temperature so the fruit retains its shape and some texture.

COOL and refrigerate.

Serve

Decorate with slivered almonds

*add sugar only as you see necessary
