WHAT IS YOGA THERAPY?
Yoga Therapy is founded on the recognition that our physical and emotional states, our attitudes, our dietary and behavioural patterns, our lifestyle and our environment are all intimately linked, they effect each other and our health. MORE ON YOGA THERAPY
The origins of Yoga Therapy are derived from the yoga traditions of Patanjali and Ayurveda. As a contemporary practice these ancient traditions are integrated with Western medicine and psychological knowledge.
Using Yoga Therapy as part of a healing journey is the application of a variety of Yoga techniques and practices that help manage health challenges.
It offers a sense of self management and self regulation through reducing symptoms, restoring balance, increasing vitality, and improving attitude.
It supports health and wellness at all levels: physical, psychological, and spiritual.
As a path that empowers clients to self manage if offers greater choice and freedom from the limitations that can come with the sense of illness and disease.
In applying the yogic principles the primary intention is to reduce suffering through calming the body and mind.
Yoga Therapy does not offer a diagnosis or a cure. It does not replace other treatments but works in conjunction with and compliments western health care.
Yoga Therapy is a personalised therapeutic practice adapted to the needs of the individual. After an initial assessment and goal setting, various practices are explored and a short home practice is recommended and guide provided.
Yoga Therapy does not require yoga experience.
Sessions are individually tailored to one-on-one consultations, or small groups of individuals all working towards similar goals.
