Joy of the New

Peace is this moment
without thinking
it should be some other way.
That you should feel some other thing
That your life should unfold according to your plans.

Peace is this moment without judgement
this moment in the heart space
where everything that is
is welcome.

Peace  by Dorothy Hunt

My first newsletter since I returned from my travels.
Aided by the beautiful summer we are having and the festive season I have maintained a relaxed way of being, finding joy in this beautiful place I call home.

With the 2025 well started my thoughts, words below, are not so much resolutions but considerations that may be useful as you review how your plans for the year are shaping up.  Remembering that for plans to be useful and constructive we need to: review, adapt, change and improve them along the way.

Resolutions, plans for change are usually focused around the self. My offering is for us to consider creating change that is beyond the self; to make a resolution for nature — to care for beetles and butterflies, rainforests and reefs, ourselves, and future generations. Now, more than ever, it’s necessary to be a catalyst for positive change. There are so many things we can do. Perhaps start with looking at your home and garden, your lifestyle and the organisations that support our natural environments through physical or political action.

The other thought is that throughout the year you consider your feelings. Rather than assessing change by your actions alone; be aware of how you feel.
How is your body responding to all you do and wish for?
The observation of your feelings, your response to what you do, and the world around you, will help you make choices that support you as you move with and through life?

How to Find New Spiritual Practice........read on

A spiritual practice isn't just about a religious belief. It’s about connecting with something outside of yourself, something that brings meaning and connection to your life. This can involve following an established religious tradition, but you may also get meaning and purpose with other activities. Among the many possibilities are breath practice, yoga, service to others, or spending time in nature.
Research suggests these practices can have very real benefits for both the mind and the body. This article presents some interesting ways to find a spiritual practice; you may find it useful.

Yoga Safari 2025

I am returning to Zambia for a Yoga Safari in May.
It is a fabulous combination of real African Safari, excellent accommodation in the best locations, some cultural and history to broaden the experience and yoga to make it restful. If you have a little interest, want to hear more, drop me a line and we can chat or arrange to meet. Bookings close mid February.

THE SENSES

The way into your feelings.

Smell - what I am smelling?

After 6 months away, the sea air as I stepped off the plane at Hobart airport struck me as ‘oh so fresh’. Yes, the “cleanest air in the world”

Taste - what I am eating?

Beetroot and Ginger Chutney

I made for Christmas gifts.
The addition of spices and herbs to our meals adds innumerable nutrients including polyphenols. All these fabulous flavours and aromas are so much more enjoyable than taking a few vitamin pills.

To the recipe below I added extra fresh and crystallised ginger.

Beetroot and Ginger Chutney

3 2/3 cup chopped beetroot
4 1/2 chopped granny smith
1 red onion
1x1 inch fresh ginger
1/2 cup chopped crystallised ginger
1 3/4 soft light brown sugar
2 tsp salt
1 tsp allspice
3 cups red wine vinegar

Makes 6 x 1 cup jars.

CHOP beetroot into small pieces. (Small and even for easy cooking and the final presentation.)
ADD all ingredients to a saucepan.
BOIL and reduce to simmer for 1 hour, until the beetroot is tender (apples will be v soft).
STERILISE jars.
ADD hot cooked chutney to the sterilised jars.

Sight - what am I seeing

As I dog sit I am enjoying all the activities that come with this - walking and yoga of all types, the dogs and I share a favourite; Savasana - Rest.

Sound - what I am listening to?

Bird song

At present the focus of sound and sight is the rosellas feasting on the nectar of the Ficofolia.

Touch - what am I feeling?

The weather has been warm and inviting for walking bare foot on the grass and sand.
